About Leona
Leona Beasley was born and raised in in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a writer, and a Southern lesbo warrior king. She writes about eccentric, funny and often queer characters from her homeland.
Her debut novel Something Better than Home is a 2018 Lambda Literary Award finalist in Lesbian Fiction and it depicts the life of a young lesbian coming of age and coming out in the 1970’s South.
Among her many creative ventures, she has taught art to the very young and to elders, was an Arts Columnist for AOL, and an educational consultant for Sesame Street and Nickelodeon, before she came back to her first love: writing.
She studied Interior Design at the University of Georgia, Education at Mills College, and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the New School University in New York City.
She now resides with her wife, small son, and mom-in-law in Jersey City, New Jersey. But she prefers you to keep her location on the down-low.
